The present needs in Thailand encompass the training and specialization of personnel towards innovating in industrializing Thailand.These needs are to be seen in a much broader perspective as well. The biggest challenges for the coming decades,according to The Economist of March 1991,will be a) the globalization of markets, communications and resources,and b) the acceleration of technological change.

The above observation highlights the realization that the two new doctoral studies programs will require much hard and sustained efforts. As Thailand makes a shift from labor intensive to knowledge intensive industries the need of the hour of the is a new breed of professionals who are motivated by new ideas, who are challenged to create, and who are willing to embark on a relentless program of innovation to meet the challenging standards of upgraded industries.

While wishing the two new doctoral degree programs much success,let me in conclusion reiterate the one distinctive rationale behind Assumption University's education : to provide the nation with qualified professionals for business and industries either at home or abroad
